Guesses you can check later
Predictions are the core of a Sealday capsule. You write up to ten guesses on the free plan, seal them with a date, and on open day grade each one as Called it, Kind of or Missed. Sealday turns the result into a scorecard such as "I called 3 of 5" that you can post.

How do I write guesses?
Pick a date, then fill rows. Each row can start from a starter such as "I'll be living in…", "The song on repeat:" or "Our group chat will be named…". Starters are sorted into Life, People, Around me and Silly, and they avoid sensitive topics such as health, money outcomes and other people's private matters.
Free capsules hold up to 10 guesses and Plus raises that to 30. You can tag a guess Sure, Maybe or Wild guess. The tag only appears on the scorecard, as a bit of fun.
What are the four starter decks?
Starters are sentence openers you finish yourself. There are 40 of them, 10 in each deck, and each deck has a different job.
- Life: "I'll be living in…", "A skill I will show off:", "The first thing I'll do on open day:".
- People: "The person I text the most will be…", "A friend I will visit:", "Someone who will surprise me:".
- Around me: "My phone wallpaper will be…", "The song on repeat:", "The word of the year will be…".
- Silly: "The plant I will keep alive:", "The nickname someone will give me:", "The ice cream flavor I will defend:".
How do I add and arrange guesses, step by step?
- In the composer, tap Add a guess, or open Guess ideas to browse the decks.
- Tap a starter and finish the sentence, or type your own from scratch.
- Set a tag if you want one: Sure, Maybe or Wild guess.
- Reorder with Move up and Move down, or remove a guess with Delete guess.
- Watch the counter, such as 3 of 10, and tap Done.
How does grading work?
On open day each guess appears on its own card. You choose Called it, Kind of or Missed, and you can add a short note, for example "Actually, I moved to Lisbon". After the last card Sealday shows your score, such as "You called 3 of 5".
A miss is shown in neutral grey rather than red, and it always has a label and a shape, so color is never the only signal.
What does the scorecard look like?
The scorecard lists each guess with its mark. Before you export it you can hide any guess behind a blurred bar, so you can post the score without sharing the content. Cards come in 9:16 for stories and 1:1 for feeds, and carry the Sealday name and a link.
Sealday also makes a Seal card right after sealing, an Opening card that shows how long the capsule waited, and a Then and now split when you added a "then" photo.
Why grade predictions at all?
Memory flatters us. Once an outcome is known, people tend to feel they saw it coming, a pattern called hindsight bias. A sealed list of specific guesses is a record you cannot quietly rewrite. The guide how to score your predictions goes deeper.
Can guesses be about other people?
In a capsule for a friend, the guesses become "Guesses about {name}". In a Table, everyone answers the same prompts, and the host grades the group answers at the reveal.
What does a graded capsule look like?
Here is a made-up example of five guesses sealed for New Year and graded a year later.
| Guess | Tag | Mark |
|---|---|---|
| I will be living in a new city | Maybe | Missed |
| My phone wallpaper will be my dog | Sure | Called it |
| The group chat will be renamed | Wild guess | Called it |
| I will have finished the half marathon | Maybe | Kind of |
| I will still use the same running app | Sure | Called it |
When do predictions work best?
They suit any moment with a clear before and after: New Year, a birthday, the start of a job, a trip or a season of training. They work best in a group, where guesses about the same event can be compared. Two or three people who seal the same questions will learn more about each other than any quiz could tell them.
They suit one-off dates less well. A capsule with a single guess like "I will be happy" has nothing to grade, so add details that settle the question.
Why not keep a list in a notes app or spreadsheet?
A plain list is fine for a private habit. Sealday adds the lock, because the point of the list is that you cannot improve it afterwards.
| Notes or spreadsheet | Sealday | |
|---|---|---|
| Can you edit it later? | Yes, quietly | No, it is sealed until the date |
| Does it prompt you to grade? | No | Yes, card by card with a score |
| Is there a shareable result? | You build it | A scorecard in 9:16 and 1:1 |
| Can a friend join? | Shared file, visible to all | A Table where entries stay hidden |
How do I write better guesses?
Make each guess a single claim you could check from a photo, a receipt or a message. Mix safe and wild guesses, because a list where everything is "Sure" is dull to open. Write a few about the world around you, such as prices and apps, as well as about your own life. The guide to scoring predictions has more.
Frequently asked questions
How many guesses can I make?
Up to 10 per capsule on the free plan and up to 30 with Sealday Plus.
Can I hide a guess before posting the scorecard?
Yes. Each guess has a toggle that blurs it on the card before you export.
Does Sealday predict anything for me?
No. Sealday never forecasts or advises. Every guess is one you write yourself.
Do I have to grade every guess?
The grading flow walks through them one by one, and each can carry a note. You decide the mark.
Can I edit a guess after I seal it?
No. Once sealed, the capsule cannot be changed. You can edit guesses only while the capsule is still a draft.
What are the starter decks?
Life, People, Around me and Silly. Each offers sentence openers you can finish or ignore.
