Guides
What can I seal in a Sealday capsule?
A capsule can hold a list of guesses, a letter to future you, photos, a voice note and a "then" photo that Sealday later asks you to match with a "now" one. You pick the open date: New Year's Eve, your next birthday, one year, five years, ten years, or any day from tomorrow up to twenty years away.
Guesses are the center of the app. Every row is one thing you think will be true by that date, such as where you will live or which song will be on repeat. Read more on the predictions page and the letters, photos and voice page.
How does Sealday keep a capsule closed until the date?
Sealday encrypts the contents on your iPhone with AES-256, then locks the key with drand, a public randomness beacon run by independent organizations. The key that opens the capsule is published by the beacon on the open date. Before that moment it does not exist anywhere, so changing the clock on your phone does nothing.
Sealday has no servers of its own. The full explanation, including what happens if the beacon is unreachable, is on the time lock page.
What happens on open day?
You hold the seal until it cracks, then read the letter, see the photos, hear your voice and go through your guesses one by one. For each guess you tap Called it, Kind of or Missed, and Sealday gives you a score such as "3 of 5".
Sealday then builds picture cards you can post or send: a seal card, an opening card, a scorecard and a then-and-now split. You choose what goes on them, and you can hide any guess before sharing.
Can I seal something for a friend, or for a whole group?
Yes. A capsule for someone else opens on their day, and neither of you can peek early. Send it as a link, or as a file with photos and voice if you have Plus. See send a capsule to a friend.
A Table is the group version. Everyone seals answers on one phone at a party, and a year later the host runs a reveal night that ends in a leaderboard. The details are on the Tables page.
What does Sealday know about me?
Very little. There is no account, no ads and no analytics. Capsules are stored on your iPhone, and the only network request for the time lock asks a public relay for one round number. Purchases are handled by Apple, with a billing service checking your Plus status. The privacy page lists everything.
The flip side is that Sealday cannot recover a capsule if you delete the app with no backup. Save a vault file in backup and restore.
What is free and what is Sealday Plus?
The first capsule is complete and free. The free plan can keep up to three capsules waiting at once, and the yearly ritual (New Year or your birthday) never counts toward that limit. Opening, grading, share cards, backup, export and deletion are never behind payment.
Plus raises the limits: unlimited waiting capsules, 30 photos, voice notes up to five minutes, Tables of up to 20 people and more seals and papers. Plans are weekly, annual (with a 7-day free trial) and lifetime, and the app shows prices from the App Store.
Which languages and devices does it support?
Sealday is built for iPhone, in English and Russian, with a dark interface. It is in development and will appear on the App Store when it is released. Questions go through the support page.
Frequently asked questions
What is Sealday?
Sealday is an iPhone app for time capsules built around predictions. You seal guesses, a letter, photos and a voice note until a date, then open them and score your guesses.
Can anyone open my capsule early?
A capsule you send cannot be opened early by anyone, including you. A capsule you seal for yourself can be broken open early after a 24-hour wait, and it is marked "Opened early" forever.
Do I need an account?
No. Sealday has no accounts. Your capsules live on your iPhone and in your own backups.
What if I delete the app?
Capsules are removed with the app, unless they are in your iCloud Backup or a vault file you exported. Save a vault file from the You tab to be safe.
Is Sealday free?
You can download it free and seal capsules for free within the limits. Sealday Plus is an optional purchase that raises the limits.
Is it on the App Store yet?
Not yet. Sealday is in development, and this site will link to the App Store page when it is released.
