A prediction game for the whole group chat

A Table is Sealday's group mode. Everyone writes answers on the host's phone, each entry is sealed separately, and nobody sees the others until the reveal date. Then the host runs a reveal night, grades the answers and posts a leaderboard of who called it. No money and no prizes are involved.

How does a Table work?

The host creates a Table with a name such as "NYE crew" and a reveal date. They pick a prompt pack, The year ahead, About each other or The world, each with suggested questions like "Who in this group will move cities first?". Guests answer one question per screen and add free guesses if they want.

Each guest finishes with a short hold-to-seal, and the phone goes back to the host. Everything is sealed with the same time lock as a personal capsule.

What if someone is not in the room?

The host sends an invite link. The guest writes their answers in their own Sealday and sends a return link through any messenger, and the host taps it to add the entry. The link carries the sealed entry, not plain text.

What does a guest do on the host's phone?

Guests can also ask for their own reminder from this screen, so they get a notification on the reveal day.

  1. Type your name. The screen tells you that others will not see your answers until the reveal date.
  2. Answer one question per screen, such as "Question 2 of 5". Skip any you prefer to leave.
  3. Add guesses of your own if you like, under "Any guesses of your own?".
  4. Tap Seal my answers and hold to seal.
  5. The screen says "Sealed. Hand the phone back." and the entry is locked.

What do the three prompt packs contain?

Each pack has five questions, and the host picks one when creating the Table.

  • The year ahead: the biggest change in my life this year, the city I will spend the most time in, something I will finally learn, my song of the year, a habit I will start.
  • About each other: who moves cities first, who picks up a hobby and sticks with it, our next trip together, who runs a marathon or a big race first, the group chat's word of the year.
  • The world: the most talked-about movie, a new gadget everyone will want, the trend of the summer, a place everyone will want to visit, the meme we will still be quoting.

What happens at the reveal?

On reveal night the host holds the seal, and answers appear question by question, each card flipped by a tap. The host grades each answer, Called it, Kind of or Missed, and Sealday ranks people by results, with Kind of counting half. Ties are shared.

The reveal runs on the host's phone, and AirPlay to a TV works. The leaderboard becomes a card you can post, and one button starts next year's Table with the same names.

How big can a Table be?

Free Tables hold up to four people. Sealday Plus raises that to 20. The host pays; guests do not need Plus.

What can the host control in the lobby?

The lobby shows who has sealed so far and when. The host can remove an entry, which deletes that person's sealed guesses, invite someone far away, add a returned entry and post the Table card. Close sealing ends the sign-up, and nobody else can join after it.

Until the reveal date the host cannot read the answers either. Entries have no spare key, so the host sees only names and sealed times.

How is the leaderboard worked out?

After each answer is graded Called it, Kind of or Missed, Sealday adds the points: one for a hit and half for Kind of. The board is titled "Who called {year}" and shows each person's count. Equal scores are marked Tied, and an optional setting shows each person's top guess.

The host can post the board as an image or save it. The button Start next year's table copies the names and moves the date forward.

Is it safe for a party?

No stakes are attached. The leaderboard is for bragging rights only, and the starter questions avoid sensitive topics. Entries stay hidden until the reveal date. For a ready-made question list, see New Year predictions for friends.

How do I run a Table at a party?

  1. Create the Table with a name and a reveal date, and choose a prompt pack.
  2. Open the lobby and tap Pass the phone.
  3. Each guest enters a name, answers the questions and holds to seal.
  4. Hand the phone back; the lobby shows how many have sealed.
  5. Close sealing when everyone is done and post the Table card.

Which groups use a Table best?

The sample names in the app show the idea: "NYE crew", "Class of 2026" and "Trip squad". A Table suits any group with a shared moment and a shared future, such as friends at New Year, a class before graduation, a team before a launch or a family gathering at a holiday.

What are the honest limits of a Table?

  • Every entry lives on the host's phone. Export a vault file so the Table survives a lost phone, because Tables are part of the vault.
  • The reveal needs the host's phone, with AirPlay to a TV if you want a big screen.
  • Remote guests need the Sealday app to write their entries.
  • Nobody can open an entry early, including the host.

What questions do guests answer?

The packs have five suggested questions each. Examples include "Who in this group will move cities first?", "Our next trip together will be to..." and "The group chat's word of the year will be...". Guests can also add free guesses of their own. Others cannot see an answer until the reveal date, and the entry screen tells each guest when that is.

Frequently asked questions

Do guests need to install Sealday?

Not for pass-the-phone: they answer on the host's phone. Guests who are elsewhere need the app to write their entries.

When can I see the other answers?

Only at the reveal date, on the host's phone.

How are points counted?

Called it counts as one, Kind of counts as a half, and ties are shared.

Can we do a Table every year?

Yes. After the reveal there is a button to start next year's Table with the same names and the date moved forward a year.

What happens to the Table if the host loses their phone?

The entries are gone unless the host exported a vault file or has an iPhone backup. Tables are included in both.

Can the host see my answers before the reveal?

No. Each entry is sealed with the time lock and has no spare key, so the host sees only your name and the time you sealed.
