Predictions for 2027: write your own

Updated · 3 min read

Most published predictions for 2027 are too vague to be marked right or wrong. The useful kind are the ones you write yourself: ten specific guesses about your life, your friends and the world, sealed before the year starts and graded on January 1, 2028.

Why are most predictions for 2027 hard to use?

Search results for next year are full of horoscopes, famous seers and trend reports. They share a weakness: they are phrased so that almost any outcome can be called a match afterwards. Critics of the quatrains attributed to Nostradamus say exactly this, that vague wording gets matched to events after they happen.

A prediction you can grade has a subject, a claim and a date. "Interest rates will fall" is a trend. "My rent will be higher in December than in January" is a prediction. Write the second kind.

What counts as a good prediction?

How do I seal them in Sealday?

Sealday has 40 sentence openers in four decks, Life, People, Around me and Silly, and many of the ideas above are close to them: "The song on repeat:", "My phone wallpaper will be...", "The word of the year will be...". Tap one, finish the sentence and tag it Sure, Maybe or Wild guess. Free capsules hold up to ten guesses and Plus raises that to 30. See the predictions page.

The open date is the point to get right. If you seal in December 2026, choose 1 January 2028 on the calendar. The New Year chip always opens on the next 1 January, so it only fits when you seal late in the year you want to grade.

  1. Tap Seal and choose For future me.
  2. Pick the date on the calendar row: 1 January 2028.
  3. Add ten guesses and a short letter that starts "Dear me on 1 January,".
  4. Hold the seal and export a vault file.

How do I avoid predictions that are too safe?

If every guess is a near-certainty, the capsule is boring on open day. Include at least two Wild guesses, things you would be delighted to get right. Include one guess that goes against your own habit, such as "I will have given up coffee". A mix of safe and risky guesses gives you a score worth reading, and it shows you how well your confidence matched what happened.

Should I predict the world or just my life?

Do both. Predictions about the world are fun and low-stakes, and they teach you whether you read the news well. Predictions about your life show how well you know yourself. A good mix is four about the world, four about you and two about the people around you.

If you do not trust your own forecasts, that is a reason to write them down. Judging yourself against the wording you used on the day is a better check than judging yourself against your memory. Hindsight bias explains why memory is unreliable here.

How do I grade them in 2028?

Open the capsule on 1 January, read the letter first and then go guess by guess. Mark Called it, Kind of or Missed, add a note when it helps, and compare the score with your confidence tags. If your Sure guesses missed more often than your Wild guesses, you have learned something real.

Sealday gives you a scorecard in 9:16 and 1:1 and lets you hide any guess before sharing. The method for fair marking is in how to score your predictions, and how to get better at making predictions goes into confidence.

Can friends make predictions for 2027 together?

Yes. Create a Table, choose The year ahead, The world or About each other and pass the phone. Nobody sees the others' answers until the reveal date, and the leaderboard ranks everyone at the end. Free Tables hold four people and Plus raises that to 20, with the host paying.

Frequently asked questions

What are some good predictions for 2027?

Specific, dated ones about your life and friends: where you will live, your song on repeat, a skill you will show off, the word of the year in your group chat.

How many predictions should I make?

Ten is a good number. More than that and grading becomes a chore.

When can I open my 2027 predictions?

On 1 January 2028 if you pick that date. Sealday allows dates from tomorrow up to twenty years ahead.

Can I change a prediction after I seal it?

No. A sealed capsule cannot be edited, which keeps the grading honest.

Does Sealday predict anything for me?

No. Sealday never forecasts or advises. Every guess is one you write yourself.

Should I include wild predictions for 2027?

Yes, two or three. A Wild guess that comes true is the best part of opening day, and the tag shows only on the scorecard.
